The Morgantown Hockey Association formed when the Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena opened in 1973, and with that, the PAHL expanded its footprint outside of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the addition of the Blades.

The Morgantown rink has seen several upgrades over the years, from a facility that was not entirely enclosed with 4 walls and infamously had two-tier benches until the early 2000s.  Plans for further renovations were heavily investigated, but the future for hockey in Morgantown is likely to be at a newer facility built in the area.

The Blades continue to work closely with the local scholastic teams to strengthen hockey in Northern West Virginia.  The Blades annual field several co-ed teams and have established girls programs at the 12U and 14U levels.
