The Fayette Area Youth Hockey Association was founded in 2010 and joined the PAHL in 2011, playing out of the Ice Mine in Connellsville.

The Ice Mine opened in 1995, at which time another youth organization was formed at the rink.  That team folded in 2007, and the Ice Miners association organization revived youth hockey in Fayette County in 2010.

The Ice Miners nickname came in relation to playing out of the Ice Mine.  The nickname was later shared with a junior team that played out of the same home rink.  The Keystone Ice Miners played in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for the 2014-15 season, but the team folded at the conclusion of the season.
