The South Hills Amateur Hockey Association was first organized in 1995 and was approved for PAHL membership that season, but the Panthers did not begin play until 1997 when a third Bladerunners rink opened in Bethel Park.

That rink has remained the home of the team ever since, but an ownership change in 2012 reduced the facility from two sheets of ice to one.  Despite that challenge, the SHAHA program has remained strong at what is now called the Spencer Family YMCA, fielding two girls teams and multiple teams at every co-ed level in the PAHL.  The organization also ventures into the Tier 1 level, and on the other end, the SHAHA 8U program is one of the largest in the area.
