The Vengeance program has been in existence since 1968 but has gone through many changes across its existence.  Those changes have included several different monikers over the years.

The association was founded as the Eastern Youth Hockey Association at the Alpine Ice Chalet in Edgewood, with a nickname of the Tigers.  Eastern then moved to the Golden Mile Ice Center when the Alpine rink converted to a tennis facility in 1975.  The program moved again in 1992 to the new Bladerunners facility in Harmarville, rebranded to become the Pittsburgh Tigers in 1995, and merged into the Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins organization in 2001.  When the Pittsburgh Hornets Tier 1 organization was being brought under the local NHL team's umbrella, the Penguins name was purchased from the association in order for those Tier 1 teams to become the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite.  As part of the purchase, the Penguins helped the PAHL team covert to the Steel City Ice Renegades in 2012.  That name stuck for a dozen seasons until the program merged with the Pittsburgh Vengeance organization in 2024, jointly taking on the Vengeance brand.

Despite the changes on the surface, the Vengeance program has otherwise exhibited a fair amount of stability.  It has operated out of the same home rink since 1992, even as the rink changed ownership and became the Alpha Ice Complex in 2015.  It has steadily grown into one of the larger organizations in the PAHL, as well.  And its teams annually compete for league and state championships, culminating with a national championship at the 16U Tier 2 level in 2022.
