HISTORY

The Johnstown Warriors entered the PAHL in 1968, playing primarily out of the Cambria County War Memorial in downtown Johnstown.

Johnstown's organization is formally called the Cambria County Student Hockey League and was one four new PAHL associations that joined the existing three league members in 1968.

Hockey has been popular in Johnstown for decades.  Pro hockey in the city dates back to 1941 with the Johnstown Blue Birds of the Eastern Hockey League.  The Johnstown Jets were the city's pride from 1950 to 1979, playing in various pro leagues.  The Johnstown Chiefs -- the team for which the city is most known -- came about in 1987 and lasted until 2010.  Johnstown is currently home to the Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League.

The Warriors play primarily at the Cambria County War Memorial in downtown Johnstown.  Though naming rights to the rink portion of the facility label it as "1st Summit Arena," the venue is commonly referred to simply as "the War Memorial."  The arena is prominently featured in the cult classic "Slapshot," a majority of which was filmed in Johnstown.  In 2015, the War Memorial was the first winner of the NHL's "Kraft Hockeyville USA" contest.

When the other PAHL member in Cambria County folded in 2023, the intent was to put the focus on a singular youth organization in the area.  The Warriors thereby absorbed most of their players and added more teams.  That also prompted the organization to utilize the North Central Rec Center in Ebensburg as a secondary rink.
